Projects
The main project is the Macina ICT Centre in Kokrobite, a fishing village in the southern Accra region of Ghana. The aim of the centre is to make knowledge about computers and their applications accessible. At school, children receive ICT lessons from books and rarely come into contact with actual computers. At scheduled times, groups of students from nearby primary schools are brought to the computer school. There, they receive instruction and support from Macina’s computer teacher, assisted by their own school teachers. In addition, they get hands-on experience using the computers, complete assignments, and can ultimately earn a certificate. The computer school also has a library with English-language books that students can read. Outside the school, there is an area used for playing football and frisbee.
The Macina Foundation is currently actively expanding its projects. Since 2018, in collaboration with Maxim Nyansa, the Macina Foundation has been equipping multiple schools in Ghana with computer labs. At present, three computer labs have already been opened in different locations across Ghana, enabling thousands of children to receive ICT lessons on real computers. Maxim Nyansa provides ICT training for teachers and ensures the quality of ICT education. In 2019, collaboration began with the AMO Programme, a project that has developed teaching materials and training to introduce active learning in schools. The shared goal is to improve education in Ghana by offering schools a complete package of interactive teaching materials, a computer lab, and teacher training.
